Outdoor Intel

Editorial Standards

How Outdoor Intel articles are written, sourced, dated, and corrected.

Who writes Outdoor Intel

Every Outdoor Intel article is written or reviewed by the Shanty BB™ Editorial Team — outdoors people working under one institutional byline while the platform is early. Named contributors will be introduced as they join and publish their first article; until then the Editorial Team byline is the accurate one.

How factual claims are sourced

When an article makes a factual claim about regulations, licensing, seasons, safety, or tax reporting, we cite a primary authority whenever a citation meaningfully strengthens the claim. The source hierarchy we work from:
  • Federal and state government agencies (USFWS, USCG, IRS, NOAA, USGS, National Park Service, BLM, USDA Forest Service, and each state's wildlife / boating / licensing agency)
  • Universities, cooperative extension programs, and accredited research institutions
  • Recognized conservation organizations and established industry publications
We do not cite content farms, scraped articles, forums as factual authority, or affiliate listicles.

Regulations change

Hunting seasons, fishing regulations, licensing thresholds, and boating rules change every year. We do our best to keep every article current, but always verify the current version directly with your state agency or the responsible federal agency before you rely on any article in the field.

Publication + last-updated dates

Every article displays both its original publication date and its last-updated date. When we materially change an article — new source, updated regulation, corrected claim, restructured section — we bump the last-updated date so you know when it was last touched.

Corrections

Spot an error? Email support@shantybb.com with the article URL, the sentence in question, and (ideally) the primary source we should have cited. Corrections are turned around within a few days and the last-updated date is bumped on publication.
