No. Every Guide and Charter listing carries a SELF-ATTESTED credentials block — license number, issuing authority, insurance carrier, and safety certifications — provided by the host. Shanty BB™ does not verify these documents. If a host misrepresents their credentials, report the listing and we'll investigate. Book with hosts whose reviews and public profile give you confidence.
What's the difference between a Charter and a Guide on Shanty BB™?
Charters are USCG-licensed operators running trips on water — fishing charters, boat tours, dive charters, sunset cruises. Guides are state-credentialed operators leading trips on land or water — hunting guides, fly-fishing guides, upland-bird guides, waterfowl outfitters. Both use the same booking, payment, and cancellation flow.
Do I still need my own fishing or hunting license?
Yes, unless the listing explicitly says the host provides all tags and permits. Most guides expect the renter to arrive with their own state license and applicable tags. Read the "Who provides tags / permits?" field on each listing before booking.
How does weather cancellation work?
Every charter and guide sets their own weather-cancel policy on the listing. The captain or guide makes the call — Shanty BB™ refunds the booking per the host's stated policy. Look for "weather-cancel: full refund if we scrub" language in the safety notes.
Are the exact meeting-point coordinates shared before booking?
No — the exact meeting point, dock number, or ranch gate is released only to the renter after a booking is confirmed and payment is captured. The listing shows the general region and nearest town.
Can I book a private charter for just my group?
Yes — every Guide and Charter listing on Shanty BB™ is a private trip for the party you book, not a shared trip with other renters. If the host offers shared trips, that will be called out in the safety notes.
